YEAR-ROUND SWIM LESSONS KIDS LEARN BEST WITH STEADY REPETITION Each Summer we...

Teaching Methods
We begin with breath control and Up-faces for the simple fact that doing so is more developmentally appropriate. Babies crawl before walking so a swim that more closely resembles crawling (dog paddle) is a skill that can more easily be achieved by toddlers and pre-schoolers than the more advanced front crawl/freestyle.
Fins & Goggles
“That’s not how I learned!” is a common thing we hear from parents who aren’t sure about our use of fins and goggles. But fins and goggles serve the very important purpose of providing propulsion (kicks) and balance (vision underwater). Both are important learning tools!
No Waitlist?
That’s right. No waitlist. If there’s one question we hear more than any other, it’s why don’t we have a waitlist for classes.
Because our lessons are perpetual, waitlists don’t work for our program. Imagine sitting on a waitlist for a Level 1 class on Friday at 2pm and by the time your name comes up, that class has progressed to Level 3. You’ve wasted time waiting for a class that is no longer appropriate for your student.
Waivers
All child-centered activities require parents to sign a waiver before participating.
Luckily signing waivers at LPB is easy! You can do it right through the Parent Portal.
Text and E-Mail Notifications
While you’re in the Parent Portal signing waivers, be sure to opt-in to text messages and double check the e-mail address on your account. We only use text alerts for emergency or last-minute closures (power outages, facility issues, etc.) when time is of the essence. We also depend on e-mail to send out important information. If you signed up with an e-mail address you don’t usually keep tabs on, consider updating to the one you check regularly.
No Strollers on Deck
Believe us, we wish we could allow everyone to roll those younger siblings out onto the pool deck to watch the big kids swim. But our on-deck space is already pretty limited and we need space for people and equipment. Also, in an emergency, strollers would disrupt evacuation procedures.
Swim Diapers
Potty trained or not, all students under 3 must wear a reusable swim diaper during their lesson (as must any student over 3 who is not potty trained). This policy is nonnegotiable and is in place to reduce the risk of having to close our pools in case of an accident. (And, yes, accidents happen, even among the fully potty-trained.)
Make-Up Lessons
Every parent and caregiver knows that sometimes things come up to disrupt the routine. Travel, illness, other activities, and even kids just having an “off day” can lead to missing lessons. Do we allow make-ups? Yes! We give every student two seasonal Make-Up credits that can be used to either make up a missed lesson or allow for extra swim time when your schedule allows. Make-Up lessons are subject to availability, but they can also be used at any of our four locations. (PS: Our Half Moon Bay pool has a slide!)
