    La Petite Baleen Glossary

Terms such as "Wiggle Butts" and "Dolphin Dancing" conjure strong images in the minds of swimming children. But, behind this glossary of LPB terms are solid physical progressions created with aquatic child development in mind. We believe that the element of fun is key to capturing children's imaginations, and in turn creating happy, successful swimmers. All of our swimmers become familiar with our unique aquatic dialect and speak our language fluently!

Here is a guide for parents to follow along with this terminology:

    Balloon Face
As opposed to teaching "blowing bubbles", at LPB we teach children to hold their breath with full cheeks. This not only allows them to hold their breath longer in the water, but also helps prevent painful water in the nose/sinus, as well as maintaining buoyancy.

    Up-Face
One of the most important terms at LPB, this means getting an even exchange of air while swimming on the stomach.

    Starfish Float
    Back float

    Dolphin Dancing
    Treading water

    Paintbrush Arms
    Backstroke

    Pencil Arms

    Wiggle Butts

    Frog Kicks
